AU’s Premier Community Building Event Organization

The Spirit & Traditions Board (STB) helps plan events that bring students from different backgrounds together and find ways to acknowledge and appreciate the exceptional students who contribute to AU's success. Our goal is to unite the university community through our efforts. We organize events and projects that celebrate AU's traditions and values, and promote a strong feeling of pride and belonging.

Jackson Dietz, Director of the Spirit & Traditions Board

Jackson Dietz is the inaugural Director of American University’s Spirit & Traditions Board. An experienced leader in events, Dietz has managed large-scale events for the Office of the Secretary of Homeland Security, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and numerous American University initiatives including the Change Can't Wait Campaign and commencement. In 2022, Dietz co-founded and Executive Directed American University’s first-ever Changemakers Summit, a collaborative project between the School of Public Affairs, Student Government, and the American University Alumni Association that uplifted student changemakers and brought students and alumni together to celebrate shared achievements. As Director of the Spirit and Traditions Board, Dietz curates unique events that bring our community of leaders together through athletic events, alumni programming, speaker events, and festivals. Outside of his work on STB, Dietz enjoys trying new restaurants, swimming, and watching Dance Moms.

Dietz is a third-year Public Relations and Strategic Communications Major in the School of Communication.

    Dear AU Eagle,

    As we approach the end of another academic year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible work accomplished by the Spirit & Traditions Board. It has been an honor serving as your Director this year, and I'm immensely proud of what we have achieved together.

    Throughout the year, the Spirit & Traditions Board has strived to enhance our campus community through a variety of engaging and meaningful events. From fostering school spirit to celebrating our diverse traditions, each event was designed to enrich the student experience and promote a sense of belonging. We are not done yet either!

    Greek Week– Greek Sync (With FSL, IFC, PHC, and IGC)

    Thursday, April 11 2024 at 7:30 PM– AU Amphitheater

    Join American University Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL), the Interfraternity Council (IFC), the Intercultural Greek Collective (IGC), the Panhellenic Council (PHC), and Spirit and Traditions Board (STB) for the first-ever Greek Sync! Greek Sync aims to stimulate philanthropic & community building efforts for the betterment of the AU community.

    An Evening with Rick Hoffman (With KPU)

    Tuesday, April 16 2024 at 6:30 PM– Constitution Hall

    Please join the Kennedy Political Union on April 16th, 2024, for a fascinating evening with actor Rick Hoffman, moderated by Professor Todd Friedman and Director Shreya Joshi. The event will take place in Constitution Hall, on the opposite side of the tunnel from Freshens, and doors will open promptly at 6:00. There will be KPU merchandise available to a select number of students.

    Soaring to New Heights (With CSI)

    Monday, April 22 2024 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM– MGC Floor Two

    🎓 Soaring to New Heights with AU! 🚀 Join us for an unforgettable afternoon of celebrations for all our graduating Eagles! From stuffing your own Clawed plush to AU-themed button making, mocktails, cupcakes, headshots, and more, it's the ultimate send-off on the 2nd floor of the Mary Graydon Center from 1-3PM. Let's make memories as we spread our wings and embark on new adventures! 🎉🦅

    Quadpalooza

    Friday, April 26 2024 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM– The Quad

    Get ready for Quadpalooza! Join us on the American University quad for a day jam-packed with ziplining, caricatures, face painting, a mechanical bull, axe throwing, inflatable obstacle courses, DJ, a photo booth, and delicious food trucks. Don't miss out on the ultimate fun-filled event!

    2024 Spring Quad Scream (With AUSG and RHA)

    Monday, April 29 2024 at 11:30 PM– The Quad

    Join the Spirit & Traditions Board, Residence Hall Association, and AU Student Government to celebrate the end of the semester and de-stress before finals begin with a campus-wide quad scream! Lemonade and donuts are provided to the first 150 people who show up!

    *We will begin gathering on the quad and serving food at 11:30 pm. The scream will begin at midnight!*

    Dear AU Student,

    Thank you for attending an event produced by the Spirit and Traditions Board this semester. We had a great first semester and I am so grateful to our community for the gratitude and support shown to us as the newest programming board on campus.
