our mission:

We help coordinate and advise on programming and policy decisions that affect the marginalized AU community. We create and deliver responsive, effective, and educational events to address issues and topics such as gender, sexuality, anti-violence, anti-racism, environmental & climate justice, queer & trans inclusion, wellness, and more while emphasizing intersectionality and inclusivity.

Meet our director, England Meadows

England Meadows (she/her) stands at the intersection of education, advocacy, and social transformation as a dedicated organizer who envisions learning as the cornerstone of justice. While pursuing her Political Science degree at American University, England co-founded BRIDGE, a revolutionary Washington, D.C. student initiative that fundamentally reimagines educational engagement. Through BRIDGE, she transforms knowledge from a private commodity into a communal resource, empowering students to architect their own intellectual journeys and challenge traditional power structures.

For England, education transcends mere academics. It serves as the most potent tool for dismantling systems of oppression and catalyzing liberation. This philosophy guides her expansive leadership portfolio: as Director of Outreach for SPEAR (Showing Political Engagement and Responsibility), she spearheads youth-focused policy initiatives that convert student energy into tangible change. Simultaneously, as Head of College Student Engagement for the National Organization for Women (NOW), she orchestrates nationwide student mobilization for gender justice campaigns.

England's advocacy extends globally through her role as Mid-Atlantic Coalition Leader for Girl Up, an initiative of the United Nations Foundation, where she oversees more than 100 clubs advancing youth-led gender equality movements. Her earlier work as Deputy Director for Community Outreach with Students for Change (SFC) refined her approach to student advocacy and coalition-building, skills she continues to leverage in her current intersectional work.

A proud spring 2025 initiate of Delta Sigma Theta's Nu Alpha chapter, England embodies the sorority's dedication to public service and social justice. She further amplifies her impact through the College Readiness and Success Committee of the Veritas Alumni Advisory Board, where she champions mentorship programs for underrepresented students. As a Vital Voices Grassroots Voice Fellow, she weaves together education, community-building, and advocacy to elevate marginalized voices.

England's vision is clear: underrepresented communities deserve not just representation but the authority to shape conversations and decisions affecting their lives. Through her multifaceted leadership, she transforms this vision into reality, creating spaces where education becomes liberation and advocacy becomes empowerment.

our events

our events

As the advocacy programming board, our events focus on approaching social issues from an intersectional lens. These events range from workshops to marches to end sexual violence on campus. At each event, we work to provide a safe space for all people while also providing a space for students to become educated about these issues. Examples of past events include celebrating Transgender Day of Visibility with Congresswoman Sarah McBride, our Multicultural Dinner, and our rally for survivors of sexual violence called Take Back the Night.
